Illegible Records - Nicole Good Pierce

Make no mistake - Nicole Good Pierce is not just a blues singer.

Although considered one of the best kept secrets in mid-Michigan for the last two years while torching up the local blues scene, Nicole has been biding her time and talent for this, her CD on Illegible Records. For her debut album, she uses all the resources at her command to release one of the most eclectic collection of songs to invade Lansing. And beyond.

The winner of various music awards and scholarships, she has gathered her best songs that she patiently worked on while making a home for her family in Charlotte, Michigan and has quietly begun recording them. Refusing to label herself she finds it easier to ask people what they think and is often interested to hear their responses. "You're going to have to tell me," she says "I've heard some pretty far out comparisons and none of them resemble each other."

Adding to that dynamic is the often unpredictable direction that the recording takes with Illegible Records instrumentalist Eric Blades as producer and engineer. Having known each other since attending public school together in Mason, Michigan the two have fallen into comfortable roles and are able to communicate on a level of understanding that most would envy in a partnership - or fear to tread!

Choosing to focus soley on her vocals for this project, Nicole has tapped the shoulder of some highly talented members of the local music scene to play her compositions. Chief among them has been Lansing Community College instructor Andy Callis, who brought his own unique style to Nicole's songs through his use of guitar, banjo and accordian (among others...!). He is joined by gifted violinist Byron Valentine and the invaluable Will "Super Size" Metz on saxophone.

With recording not yet complete, expect the roster to grow.

Nicole Good Pierce's "Low Down" will be released early in 2006.
