Illegible Records - Jeff Sipe

Few guitarists are as good on acoustic as they are on electric and vice-versa. In music circles, it can be an unspoken given that a gifted musician in one genre will be awkward or not quite up to par in another. Original electric guitarist and now acoustic player Jeff Sipe is breaking those rules.

Having originally started out as a progressive rock guitarenthusuast, Jeff found himself moving back and forth between bar band player to songwriter amidst the local scene in Lansing, Michigan. This continued for years until he came to a new and pivotal understanding of his craft.
"Music to me has always been a personal reflection of one’s self," he comments, looking back at the fact that after a long while he slowly left what was once so important to him - a skill he had honed since he was ten years old. A contributing factor to his stepping away from music was a debilitative case of acute carpal tunnel syndrome. Aided by a corrective surgery that restored full use of hands, the passion for music and creating returned stronger than ever. Championed by a new wife, a new outlook on creativity, Jeff opened his mind to new opportunities and found himself embracing the guitar again. But this time, following the path set by his father, Jeff grabbed an acoustic - and never looked back.

It was just a matter of time before the returning musician decided to follow in his old co-horts' (Randall Carlson, Dave Dawdy) path and talk to Illegible Records. Label head, Eric Blades, couldn't be more excited "I saw Jeff perform electrically YEARS ago and thought he was impressive. Hearing him play recently, AND, on an acoustic guitar was just stunning. This is going to be some CD..." Slated to record at Illegible's Harbor Studio in July, the album will be a collection of some energetic and compelling instrumental songs that will amaze. Jeff himself is anxious to make this happen "I can’t wait to do this album – it’s the first solo effort I’ve ever done." He adds "I’m very excited to do this. Very excited to be a part of this family of people I’ve been associated with for years."
